Answers

Can CD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-RW disks be used as backup media?

Yes, just make sure you have formatted the disk first so it can be used as a plain drive before you start the backup.

Can CD-R disks be used as backup media?
No, CD-R disk are unsupported due to the way Instant Backup works.

Why are files in the backup always scanned ?
Instant Backup scans the files/folders in both the source and backup to compare which ones to backup. This ensures that the backup always contains an accurate copy of the source files/folders (according to the filters being used). It also ensures that deleted files/folders in the source are reflected in the backup.

Are tape drives supported?
No, tape drives are unsupported due to the nature of how Instant Backup works, by checking differences between source and backup, makes the backup process much faster. It also allows for direct access to the files on the backup using the native file system.

Can I span a backup across several disks?
No, the way Instant Backup currently works make this unsuitable.

Are the files on the backup stored compressed?
No, compression makes the backup process itself take longer time and since hard drives these days are relative cheap we didn't include this option.
